Maintenance of energy metabolism
B vitamins and magnesium are essential for the metabolism of proteins, lipids and carbohydrates, energy production, immunity and cognitive functions.
Scientific research has demonstrated the importance of B vitamins and magnesium for sporting performance, primarily due to their role in energy production.
We have selected the most bioavailable (and most expensive) forms of B vitamins because their superiority over folic acid and cyanocobalamin is abundantly clear: B9 in the form of calcium methylfolate, B12 in the form of methylcobalamin (further details in the references).
Recharge your energy!
Vitamin D and magnesium deficiencies
Good health depends on maintaining healthy bones and muscle function. Vitamin D is essential for both these metabolic processes. However, depending on the populations studied and the time of year, between 50% and 100% of people are deficient in vitamin D. Similarly, our dietary intake of magnesium falls short of nutritional recommendations.
A deficiency can lead to a general weakening of functional capacity and adaptability, resulting in general fatigue, nervous and muscular tension, and a greater susceptibility to stress.
- Between 50% and 100% of people are deficient in vitamin D and magnesium.
- Natural vitamin D with excellent bioavailability.
- Third-generation magnesium with excellent bioavailability.
- Magnesium intake helps to reduce fatigue.
An antioxidant complex
The synergy of antioxidants such as beta-carotene, vitamin E, vitamin C, selenium and zinc limits, prevents or eliminates oxidative damage to cells.
This oxidation is caused by free radicals; their overproduction can lead to molecular damage that accelerates cellular ageing and is implicated in various diseases.
We have selected the most bioavailable or most natural ingredients to ensure maximum effectiveness in our bodies.
Thus, the Nutripure multivitamin contains an effective and comprehensive antioxidant complex.
Valuable ingredients for your body’s health
We want the best for our bodies and those of our loved ones. We have selected the very best ingredients for you, in the optimal quantities:
- Lutein is a natural pigment belonging to the carotenoid family, like β-carotene. It is concentrated in the retina. This pigment helps protect the retina by filtering blue light and thanks to its antioxidant properties. The risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) appears to increase if the concentration of this pigment is insufficient. NUTRIPURE has chosen a natural form of lutein
- Coenzyme Q10 is present in every cell of the body. It plays a key role in mitochondrial function. NUTRIPURE has chosen a natural form of coenzyme Q10 produced by simple fermentation
- Quercetin belongs to the flavonoid family and is found particularly in tea, apples, onions and broccoli. The beneficial effect of quercetin on physical performance appears very promising, but scientific evidence is limited due to a lack of high-quality publications. NUTRIPURE has chosen an extract from the Sophora japonica plant.
Natural ingredients: our body says YES!
The shortage of high-quality raw materials has led the agri-food industry to develop synthetic equivalents of organic vitamins. However, our bodies do not process these molecules in the same way.
Take folates (vitamin B9), for example: they contribute to the normal synthesis of amino acids and play a role in cell regeneration.
A common mutation in Europe affecting the enzyme that converts folic acid into its bioactive form, 5-methyl tetrahydrofolate, limits the benefits of the ‘folic acid’ form.
The direct use of the biologically active form, 5-methyl tetrahydrofolate, optimises the effectiveness of folate supplements. This is NUTRIPURE’s choice.
The Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) for vitamin B9 is 330 μg per day for men and 300 μg per day for women. NUTRIPURE has opted for a dose of 200 μg/day, maintaining a balance between dietary intake and natural supplementation.
B vitamins are also found in many foods: see our guide to foods rich in vitamin B.
AN ANTIOXIDANT COMPLEX
The term ‘antioxidant’ refers to ‘molecules that limit, prevent or eliminate oxidative damage to cells caused by free radicals’ (1) . Free radicals are produced during various physiological processes, including physical activity (2), and play a role in the functioning of certain enzymes, the immune response, the destruction of tumour cells, etc. (3) However, their overproduction can cause molecular damage that accelerates cellular ageing and may be implicated in various diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, degenerative diseases, cancer…
Antioxidants may be produced by our body’s own synthesis, as in the case of glutathione, or obtained from food, as in the case of vitamins (C and E), carotenoids (beta-carotene…), minerals (selenium, zinc) or polyphenols (more than 5,000 varieties)…
Synergistic combinations of antioxidants such as beta-carotene, vitamin E, vitamin C, selenium and zinc appear to be preferable to isolated supplements. Supplementation in moderate doses enhances both non-enzymatic antioxidants and the activity of enzymatic antioxidants (glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase) (4).
Focus on vitamin A:
Vitamin A is an essential fat-soluble vitamin obtained from food. It is available in forms such as retinol, retinyl acetate, retinyl palmitate and beta-carotene. Vitamin A:
- It plays a role in the process of cell differentiation.
- It helps maintain the mucous membranes and skin in a normal condition by regulating the renewal of epithelial tissues (skin, mucous membranes, etc.).
- It contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system.
- It contributes to the maintenance of healthy vision and promotes adaptation to darkness.
- It contributes to normal iron metabolism.
- Vitamin A requirements are generally met in the French population, hence the importance of low-dose supplementation.
Focus on vitamin E:
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin. Traditionally, the generic term ‘vitamin E’ was used to refer to a large family of eight molecules possessing antioxidant properties to varying degrees: four tocopherols (α, β, γ, δ) and four tocotrienols (α, β, γ, δ).
Vitamin E helps protect cells against oxidative stress thanks to its antioxidant properties (10).
α-Tocopherol is a well-studied form (11) that is abundant in the human body and possesses significant biological activity (12) . The natural form of α-tocopherol (RRR-α-tocopherol) has greater bioavailability and activity than the synthetic form (13,14), as it is absorbed twice as efficiently by the body (12). There is considerable evidence to suggest that tocotrienols (15) and γ-tocopherol (16) behave very differently to α-tocopherol in the human body, with a specific activity that has not yet been defined; however, it appears that a combination of tocopherols has a synergistic effect (17)
The RDA for vitamin E is 12 mg/day. A study of vitamin E intake shows that 90% of American men and 96% of American women do not consume the recommended dietary allowances, estimated at 12 mg/day of α-tocopherol (18).
NUTRIPURE has selected a blend of natural tocopherols (α, β, γ, δ) that have a synergistic effect.
Focus on selenium
Selenium is a trace element with various properties and:
- helps to protect cells against oxidative stress, in particular by activating certain enzymatic cascades and regenerating other antioxidants. Selenium is an important component of selenoproteins and, in particular, of glutathione peroxidase, a key enzyme involved in protection against oxidative stress.
- It contributes to normal spermatogenesis.
- It contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system.
- It contributes to the maintenance of normal nails.
- It contributes to the maintenance of normal hair, in particular by regulating sebum production on the scalp.
- It contributes to the normal functioning of the thyroid (20).
Selenium is found in two forms: the organic form, derived from yeast (selenocysteine, selenomethionine), and the inorganic form, such as sodium selenate. Supplementation with selenomethionine appears to be less effective than supplementation with sodium selenate at increasing glutathione peroxidase activity. Furthermore, selenomethionine, which is incorporated into proteins in place of methionine, is thought to be a less bioavailable source than the inorganic forms (21) . The RDA for selenium has been estimated at 50 μg/day for a young adult. NUTRIPURE has chosen an inorganic form of selenium, sodium selenate, at a dose of 35 μg/day.
Focus on vitamin C
Vitamin C is an organic acid that occurs naturally in the form of L-ascorbic acid. The human body is unable to synthesise vitamin C and cannot store it, so it requires a sufficient and regular dietary intake.
Vitamin C:
- helps protect cells against oxidative stress (22).
- helps reduce fatigue
- contributes to the normal formation of collagen to ensure the normal functioning of the gums, teeth, skin, bones, cartilage and blood vessels. Collagen is a polypeptide composed largely of proline and lysine. The hydroxylation of proline and lysine (hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine), which is necessary for collagen formation, depends on vitamin C. Collagen is involved in the formation of various tissues, such as bones, teeth, the cornea, tendons, ligaments, c
